IMPORTANT NOTICE
Important Update: ADHD Diagnosis and Treatment at Indooroopilly Family Practice (IFP)
From 1 December 2025, the Queensland government has expanded the scope of practice to allow suitably trained general practitioners to diagnose and initiate treatment for ADHD.
At IFP, our priority has always been to provide the highest standard of care and clinical excellence for our patients. ADHD is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that can be complex to assess and manage, particularly in patients with co-existing mental health or medical conditions.
After careful consideration, the doctors at IFP have decided that at this stage we are not in a position to offer new ADHD diagnoses or initiate stimulant treatment within the practice. This decision has been made in the interests of patient safety and to ensure the best possible outcomes. We are committed to professional development and may be able to offer this service in the future.
What this means for you:
- We will continue to prescribe and manage ADHD medications for our existing patients who are already stable on treatment.
- If you are seeking a new or initial ADHD diagnosis or treatment, we can provide referral options.
- We remain committed to supporting your overall health and can continue to assist with any other medical or mental health concern.
We understand this change may be disappointing or inconvenient for some patients, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding as we uphold our commitment to safe, evidence-based care.
